La Fiesta is gone.  Pho Dau Bo, a Vietnamese/Thai/Seafood restaurant takes it place.  Food is good.  Surprisingly fast.  Try it.

173 McDermot Ave

Really nice Italian restaurant with a limited number of tables.  The food excellent and a tad pricey but perfect for a special occasion.  The staff is well trained and attentive but not annoying.

Melting Pot

218 Sherbrook

There are three experiences you can get there.  There’s the appetizer with melted cheese and other breads, etc.  There’s the main course with hot oils and broths where you dip in raw meats and seafood.  Then there’s dessert where you have melted chocolate with fruit.  I met up with some friends there.  They went through all three courses and I was there only for dessert.  I was not there when they had the appetizers but it seemed they enjoyed it.  By the time they started the main course I arrived.  Personally I think it was far too bland.  The meats and seafood had no seasoning what so ever.  Perhaps the broth had some taste but I doubt it.  The oil was plain annoying because it would spurt out and burn you every now and then.  Dessert which was disappointing.  The chocolate was too sweet. The seasonal fruit was a joke.  There were no strawberries.  Just a few kinds of melons. If I can go to Safeway for berries so can they.  I was really hoping for pineapple but no such luck.  The seating is quite intimate and enjoyable but the food is lame.

114 Market Ave

I was hoping I would like this restaurant.  I don’t though.  The atmosphere is nice but the food is sludgy.  I think Mexican food can be done in a fresh and vibrant way.  I don’t know the way and hence I haven’t invested a ton of money into a restaurant.  One would hope that the owners of this place would know how though.  It’s ok.  In terms of food itself though you’re better off at Taco Bell.

Oh and I forgot to mention that they have fake fried icecream.  It’s actually quite clever.  Instead of battering up a globe of icecream and frying it for a second they cover a globe of icecream with a little batter.  Perhaps they fry and freeze again.

1100ish Jefferson 1293 Jefferson Ave (786-8600)

Their Tandoori chicken pizza with green peppers, onions, mushrooms and generous cheese is something to try if you’re in the neighbourhood.
