Nusraat

The Kingdom

October18

Saw this movie a while ago but didn’t get a chance to post anything. If you’ve seen the previews for this movie then you pretty much know the plot. There’s a bombing in Saudi in an American governed area. Many die. FBI agents fly into Saudi to investigate. The agents become targets themselves. It’s a fairly simple plot. The acting is good. There were welcomed jokes throughout. I’m impressed with this movie because it goes through the events swiftly without too much pause. The movie is set up very well in the introduction where a timeline of events between the US and Saudi is presented. I was pretty nervous about seeing this movie. I thought, “here we go again”. This was the first movie I have seen that didn’t demonize muslims as they pray. Instead, there were two touching scenes of a man with his wife and kids praying together and then a son and his elderly father. Both scenes were tied together with musical accompaniment.

I liked the ending because nothing was really resolved. I like endings like that. You can’t just magically conclude complicated issues dragged through centuries of time in one motion picture. It’s just a window of time.
