Sun Fortune

2077 Pembina Hwy

I’ve been wanting to try out this restaurant for a while. Everytime I drive by I notice that the place is packed. Today I got an opportunity to see why. It’s a cozy little restaurant. Service is friendly but ditzy. They got our order wrong but was patient in explaining the different items. The food is amazing. You can see them make the food. Tipu wasn’t really that great company because he kept staring at the cooks like it was a soccer game or something. I was most impressed with their hot and sour soup. It wasn’t wispy, it was bold and generous with pieces of shrimp, chicken, vegetables and seaweed. The purple stuff is seaweed right? Well it’s good when they make it. I also had this warm almond drink that I found to be fantastic. Tipu hated it. He liked his Ovaltine and Graham liked his Horlix. I kid you not. This is the place to go with a crowd of friends. I love restaurants where you share.

a little pause

April26

A few days ago a father of four children passed away. His oldest child is 13 I believe. His wife is pregnant with the fifth child. The family immigrated from Pakistan fairly recently. The man worked for Standard Aero I heard. The wife is a doctor I believe. He died in an accident at home. I’ve never met the family but I went to the funeral with Tipu. Muslims generally go to funerals regardless of if they know the person or not. He died while still young and strong and so suddenly that it really made me pause. We don’t know when it will be all over. We run around all day and it turns to night and then back to day again. You almost feel impervious.

Last night I was trying to fall asleep. I was exhausted and yet still could not catch the zees. The time gave me the opportunity to realize how I take simple things for granted. To be safe and fed lying in bed bored is something that lots of people can’t even dream of. In some places people fearfully stand guard at night and/or are too hungry to find rest. They wake up hoping but knowing if they will really eat.

Cat Declaration

April7

Henceforth Tipu and I will not attend any engagement at anyone’s home with a cat. No exceptions. Please be so kind to as to respect our limitations. Stupid cats. I feel like spray painting them black and stapling them onto walls. I hate cats.
