Beef Patties

February10

Here is another recipe. I used to do this kind of thing for lunch but now I’ll only do this kind of thing for dinner. It’s basicly seasoned ground beef in puff pastry.

First you need ground beef, lamb, chicken, turkey… tofu? Don’t know, haven’t tried tofu. Try it and let me know.

Then you need all of this:

Basicly you throw however much you want of whatever you have in the meat. I use various hot sauces, dijon mustard, ginger and garlic paste, soy sauce, worchestire sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, salt and a little oil. Missing in this picture is baking soda and freshly ground black pepper which I forgot to include into the picture. Your aim should be to include hot, sour and sweet flavours. You can emphasize whichever taste you prefer (I prefer hot) but it’s important to have all three. If you add soy sauce go easy on the salt. Cornstarch gives the meat some stiffness and baking soda makes fun fizzing noises and helps with the whole marinating process.

Once mixed it should look something like this: (sorry, think it’s out of focus)

Then you saran wrap the bowl and leave it in the fridge overnight.

The next day you fry the meat. You should not need to add oil. You added a bit to the meat mix and that should carry you through. Should look something like this:

Then you use puff pastry like the one seen below.

Then you cut the pastry into squares, put the meat in the middle and fold over to form triangles. Then you bake them and get the final product as seen below.

restructuring

February8

I’m hardly successful at maintaining an apartment, laundry and cooking now while doing a Masters. Tipu helps out and it’s appreciated. However things just are not lining up. If I’m having this much trouble now, amn’t I entirely screwed when I get a job and have kids? I think so. So after some persuasion, tears and heartache I’ve decided to cut down on the cooking. It’s taking up a lot of my time. I was cooking lunch and dinner. Lunch will now be sandwiches, canned or frozen. Dinner will remain as is and breakfast was never even entertained to be a real meal so we’ll leave it there.

As well, I want to go to the gym in the morning… yes that’s right, I actually wake up at 8am-ish. I have to fight like a dog not to just climb back into bed and I’m slouchy and grouchy the rest of the day but w/e. If I can get to bed before 1am I think I’ll have reached another milestone. By the time I come home, take a shower, eat, etc it’s too late to do nonessentials but enjoyables.

I so need to finish my Masters. I really have to push other things aside because I’m not investing enough time into it right now.

Watch the Fire

February5

This winter started off nice enough. It had been hovering around zero degrees for sometime. Too bad we had to drop down and stay down at minus forty. Our old car has needed I think four or five jumps now. Perhaps more. The car seems to time it’s demises at the worst possible times as well. Important appointments and dinner invites are held to be frivolous by our car. I hate not keeping the car in a garage. Who ever thought you could park our cars outside 365 days a year in Winnipeg? Who was the fool who decided to make a town here? Yeah, yeah… the rivers meet. In survival situations when you’re lost in the woods and what have you someone is assigned to stay up and watch the fire. In our case we stay up to start the car. Dear Lord let the melting begin.
