It’s a documentary about Al Gore and his lifelong learning and communication about global warming. There are a few points that he articulated very well. North American gas emission standards for vehicles are a joke and all the belly aching that North American car industry is doing is only going to bite themselves in the ass in terms of global market shares. Change is very necessary and can be fruitful. Scientists have standards which they must abide by when publishing, news agencies do not. It’s an important film to watch. I like how he wove other issues into global warming to draw parallels and show further insight. He gave the example of tobacco. He said even after the surgeon general gave out warnings of it being a carcinogenic his family still farmed it but after his sister died from lung cancer the family immediately stopped. He showed how pro-tobacco groups initially tried to create doubts about the scientific findings but the truth eventually was accepted. It’s very much what’s happening now, lobby groups are successfully creating doubts in the minds of consumers about whether or not it’s a real problem to promote the same harmful life choices. He also shows global warming from many different angles and consequences. In general the movie is about how only the political initiative of voters will ever bring this issue to the mainstream.
