It’s coming

August18

I fasted today. I had no food or drink from about 4:40am through 8:50pm. To say it was difficult would be an understatement. I am an eater. That is what I do and that is what I am known for. It’s my default activity. I think it began as an innocent piece of advice from someone to help me with my stomach acid. It was then reinforced by random diet articles that it’s better to eat a bit all the time than one big bang. It was easy to adopt the habit but once Ramadhan comes around I suffer. The reason I fasted today is because I have some days I missed last year and I need to make them up. Ramadhan this year is going to be around the third week of September. I think I’ll wait until closer to September to make up the rest of my days missed because today was far too difficult. Ramadhan is marked on the lunar calender. The month is actually slowly creeping towards the summer months. In about 5 years or so it will be in the summer. Someone remind me to get pregnant during that time or plan a trip or move to Australia for a decade or two. Pregnant people or travellers are a few of the classes of people who are exempt as are elderly, mentally ill, diabetics, etc. Since Australia is in the southern hemisphere their fasting months are shifting towards their winter with shorter days while ours is shifting towards the summer with longer days.

This weekend I promised Tipu I would see “Snakes on a Plane”. It’s one of the many compromises married people make to do things together. Fair is fair, I made him see “Breakup” a few weeks ago. Did I remember to do a post on that? Whoops. Anyways, it was pretty good. Well acted, good script. I think single people found it boring but people in relationships found it to be therapeutic. I should probably buy it and pop it in to make Tipu feel guilty every now and then.

It’s hysterical how upset Tipu is about the new classification of planets. If you see him, strike up a conversation on the topic for a good laugh. Here’s some ammo.

You Don’t Have Family?

August10

I was watching tv a few weeks ago, the channel was the extra Shaw channel. I forget the number. A local reporter was going around and asking people at the Forks whether or not they felt the Canadian government was doing enough to get citizens back from the fighting in Lebanon. Many of the people interviewed voiced the opinion that people should know better than to go to Lebanon. I was thinking that such a retort was a minority but I was perusing a Maclean’s magazine and similar thoughts had been published. Why do Canadian citizens travel to “dangerous” parts of the world and then expect help back? Well, Lebanon has been safe for years. Lebanon had been a hot tourist destination until recently. Perchance the people interviewed didn’t realize that because their pedestrian version of a getaway is Gimli. Secondly, to visit family stupid. Lastly, what, you wanted them to get bombed? You wanted to see them as shreds? It’s not like they entered the country after Israel started bombing. You think anyone forecasted it? I guess it all goes back to what we view as Canadian. I guess if you have an accent, look different, practise a different faith or have family outside of Gimli you’re not as Canadian as the other.
I’m getting real tired of ignorant people.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest

August9

I know what you’re thinking. It took me long enough to see this movie. I finally got around to it. Some people have complained of its length but it didn’t seem that bothersome to me. I am very impressed by the Pirates franchise. I still remember reluctantly renting the first movie and being quite entertained. The second movie is pretty good too. However, since there’s been such a huge gap between the first and second installment I didn’t quite understand the significance of the last scene. I find that to be a clever way to get the audience to rent or buy the first movie. Johnny Depp is amazing in this movie. I can’t imagine anyone else. The others were ok. Orlando Bloom peaked in Lord of the Rings.

I don’t understand how the heart controls the seas though. I didn’t quite follow all of that. So the man fell in love, cut his chest open… pourquoi? Comments appreciated.
