Smell that?

That would be fresh air. May God help her and her family deal with the uphill battles ahead.

Laundry Room

August28

The laundry room is an exercise in mathematical and political prowess. There are three washers. Each of different size. One washer has a separate setting for bright colours which is an attractive option. There are three dryers. Two of the dryers are pathetic and only good for small loads or fabrics which require less intense heat. One dryer is awesome. It is the uber dryer that everyone strategizes for. Each cycle on any machine is a looney. Washers takes 25 minutes per cycle. Dryers take 45 minutes per cycle. There is such a thing as laundry room traffic. When in the laundry room everyone gathers intel on each others laundry intentions for the day. There are approximately 30 others suites in my building. Competition can be fierce but usually isn’t for some reason.

The strategy I have adopted is the bulk laundry approach. I store up until I have to do atleast 3 loads (dark colours, bright colours and whites). Today I had 5 loads to do. I basically block all other laundry users from entry by keeping as many machines busy as I can. It is sort of bullying. Other tenants will usually give up if they see me and my many loads. I closely follow progress in the uber dryer. I show up a bit early if I can so not to lose strategic control of the uber dryer. I do not appreciate it when people take my clothes out of the machine if I’m a bit late so I very rarely will take others’ clothes out of the machine if they are late. I will expel tardy clothing out the of the uber dryer however. I have never been caught during an expulsion process. Usually expulsion can happen without direct confrontation of the clothing owners.

I usually dress strange when doing laundry. I have two pairs of bright pink coloured sweats that I’m quite fond of. Other house pants are equally or slightly less exuberant. I usually wear them around the house along with a t-shirt. When doing laundry I wear something to cover my arms and a headscarf. The arm covering garment and headscarf has never matched my pants. Today while I was in the laundry room my dearest husband left for work and locked me out of the apartment. I had to chase him down Pembina before his bus came with my strange attire and empty laundry detergent cup and laundry bag. I really got the attention of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints men who cover Pembina diligently this time.

Easily Distracted

August25

I cancelled my cable again. There are still a few channels I get regardless. They are a bunch of french channels, CNN, Discovery, MTV, CTV 24 hour news rehash, Vision and Treehouse. CNN is fun or frustrating to watch depending on my mood. Discovery is surprisingly lame. Their extreme engineering is neat but it’s usually showing how people have escaped death which is surprisingly dull. MTV is fun or frustrating depending on my mood. CTV 24 hour news rehash is boring. Vision is beyond boring. Treehouse I can’t stand. I was forced to watch too much of that stuff with my much younger sister. French channels are useless since the only french I remember are a few verbs and they talk too fast.

It’s working out well though. Before I could sit at the tv for hours if given the opportunity. Now I really can’t. I’ve tried but nothing holds my attention. As a result I have an alternative work environment (home). There are some days I just don’t feel like putting on full hejab and heading out.

Paragon (Greek)

August23

220 Carlton St.

Some former ECE classmates got together for some food and catching uppings at Paragon on Monday. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves. There were a few in the bar area but we were the only ones dining I think. You can read Vince’s
post. We had a nice time. The restaurant was decorated convincingly enough but the food plating was disappointing. I swear they used frozen vegetables but I could be wrong. It was ok food. Nothing spectacular. I think I’m adventurous when I dine out. I like to see things on the menu that I could never make or would never bother making because I can tell it would take too long. Paragon serves souvlaki, ribs, steak, etc. Their salad had old lettuce.

If you’re into bland safe food you might like it more than I did.

2.5/5

Snakes on a Plane

August21

I’ve never gone to a movie to see how much it sucks. I’ve never derived pleasure from that sort of thing but I did somewhat this weekend. There were such cheesy lines and awkward situations that the audience just started laughing. Tipu loved it. In addition to some cheesy lines the snakes attacked “sensitive” areas of both male and female anatomy. The snakes were also coming in and out of dead people, attacking babies, lunging at people, etc. I hate snakes. The reason the snakes were going all crazy instead of keeping a polite distance is that they were sprayed by chemicals to make them all hot and bothered.

If you like seeing movies because they are bad: 4/5

If you do not intentionally see movies that are bad: 2/5
